The Blackburn Inn
& Conference Center
Scope of Work:
Retro Hospitality has guided The Blackburn Inn and Conference Center from concept to reality, partnering with a first-time hotelier to oversee development, construction, and ongoing management.
Project Overview:
Originally built in 1828 by Thomas Blackburn, a protégé of Thomas Jefferson, the property once served as the administrative headquarters of Western State Hospital. Richmond-based developer Robin Miller led the redevelopment, opening the hotel in 2018. In 2020, Retro oversaw a major expansion, adding a 10,000-square-foot conference center and spa. Today, The Blackburn Inn is a 49-room luxury boutique hotel that blends historic charm with modern amenities, offering an elevated guest experience in the heart of Staunton, Virginia.
“In 2007, I had a vision to convert one of our historic buildings in Staunton, Virginia into a boutique hotel. Retro Hospitality was involved early on in helping bring that vision to a reality. In May 2018, we opened The Blackburn Inn with Retro Hospitality. Paul and his team have been with me every step of the way from planning to construction and through opening. As a first-time hotel owner, I needed an operating partner that would be fully engaged with support from their leadership. Retro Hospitality has been that and more.”
